I can't help but feel this misses the point of the Cayman. I'm sure it's fast, but it's hardly what it used to be anymore.

Misses the point? It hammers the point home.

The Cayman is an extremely capable platform, and with these upgrades it's been transformed into a real hardcore track machine, from an entertaining sports car.

Luxury sports car? That's a barebones interior. Awesome car, but it's not what it was. Biggest plus of having a Cayman to me would be creature comforts coupled with performance.

But that's just like, my opinion, man.

Cayman is Porsche's hard top mid-engined 2-seat sports car.

I agree with JBH... Cayman is the BEST choice for a track oriented Porsche.

And a transplanted Carrera engine... especially if it is a 3.8L Carrera S 400hp X51 engine...

That is one serious piece of sports car kit.

And a better performer in pretty much every respect, at that point, than a rear-engined Carrera.

Porsche KNOWS that a Cayman built to GT3 specs would completely outshine a 996/997 GT3, by being lighter and purer, and even better balanced.

Luxury is not a pre-requisite for all Porsches.

Any link to the original source? Would love to find out more about this amazing machine.

No where did I say "luxury". And yea, the whole point of a track car is to change it from the original, to make it better for the track.

Stock Caymans are for the most part quite well equipped right from the factory, which sounds like what you'd want.

Nice shots.

I was hoping to learn a bit more about the mods, and see what the outside of the car looks like.
